Sea Otters:

Body: 50-100 pounds
Tail: flattened, under 1/3 body length
Land behavior: rarely come ashore, awkward development on land
Water behavior: floats high in water, swims essentially on back, found in salt water, eats while gliding on backpaddles with back flippers and tail
Pups: single pup
Social: typically found in little to enormous groups

River Otters:

Body: roughly 20-25 pounds
Tail: rounded, more than ½ body length
Land behavior: often come shorewards quick, deft movement
Water behavior: waterbody generally submerged, swims paunch down, found in salt and new water, rarely eats in water, paddles with webbed feet
Pups: up to four little guys
Social: found alone or in family gatherings
